Extension of Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Amendment Bill 2009 makes temporary Australian “terrorism” law, permanent


First 11 of 11 paragraphs shown  In Dec 2009 the he Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act, ran out, and now the Office of the Attorney General makes it a fixed part of Australian secret police practice -  to allow interception, copying, recording and disclosure of all electronic communications of all persons for “disciplinary action” purpose.
 Senator Ludlam, Greens (Western Australia) proposed amendments based on submissions by:
 -  the Privacy Commissioner;
 -  Electronic Frontiers Australia; and
 -  Australian Law Reform Commission.
 Amendments to the bill to:
 - clarify the definition of what constitutes network protection duties in the first place;
 - what constitutes disciplinary actionsl; and
 - tighten requirements to destroy copies of intercepted communications.
  The government plan: The Telecommunications Amendment Bill 2009 makes a set of amendments to the Telecommunications Act, to allow interception, copying, recording and disclosure of electronic communications.
