New global standard proposed for disaster classification and peril terminology

First 11 of 11 paragraphs shown  Insurers and researchers had proposed a new classification for two disaster groups: natural and technological disasters.
 Natural disaster category: The natural disaster category was divided into six disaster groups: Biological, Geophysical, Meteorological, Hydrological, Climatological and Extra-Terrestrial.
 Disaster classfications:  Each group covers different disaster main types, each having different disaster subotypes.
 The goal:
 - Create and agree on a common hierarchy and terminology for all global and regional databases on natural disasters:
 - Establish a common and agreed definition of disaster groups, main types and sub?types that is simple and self?explanatory.
 Global databases to compare and exchange data:  The aim was to allow all global databases to compare and exchange data at a detailed level, as well as all other databases using this standard to do the same.
 The work plan: Create and agree on a common hierarchy and terminology for all global and regional databases on natural disasters; Establish a common and agreed definition of disaster groups, main types and sub- types that is simple and self-explanatory.
