| Varanus squeeze: gas bulletin board users forced to sign onerous terms |
Senator David Johnston told the Federal Senate Thursday, 2 October 2008 "Bulletin board users had to sign onerous terms and conditions to participate in the bulletin board, wherein they released and discharged all of the upstream providers of the gas from liability before they could play in the game”. Example was Prime Laundry: Paul Brockschlager, General Manager, Parliamentary and Corporate Affairs, Australian Hotels Association (WA) said “The only one that I know specifically is Prime Laundry, who supplied 85 per cent of our sector... I would say that because my understanding is that the bulletin board cost them up to three times their normal cost". Prices were still 20 per cent above: Senator Johnston reported prices were still 20 per cent above what they were prior to the incident. "In the latest reports...some of these are properties that have come out of contract are being quoted up to 60 and 70 per cent increases with no explanation as to why that is so ...” |
